THE NORMAN
1325 West Wilson Avenue, Chicago, Illinois
Rehabilitation Cost: $1 million (1987-1988)
This building was previously a transient hotel, with extensive deferred maintenance. Deficient staff and high crime contributed the building's deteriorated condition. Upon purchase, the building was substantially renovated. The lobby was remodeled in an art deco motif. In addition, an outdoor park was built for the residents and social services were brought in to assist those in need, particularly seniors. Performed without secondary financing.
