SWITCHING STATION LOFTS

EXTERIOR HERO 15 South Homan, Chicago, Illinois

Rehabilitation Cost: $3.5 million (2002-2003)

The high ceilings, large windows, and the central courtyard of this 24-unit loft rental building makes this building the ideal artist live/work space in the Garfield Park neighborhood on the city's West Side. This is the first Chicago project of Artspace Projects whose mission is to create, foster and preserve affordable space for artists and arts organizations. Originally built in 1906 as a telephone switching station, this unique space later became the Roentgen School.
