Holsten Real Estate Development is pleased to announce the Closing of a $128 Million Development Project of Lawson House providing affordable housing in Chicago.

Lawson House YMCA was originally built in 1931 as the Victor F Lawson YMCA as a single-room occupancy hotel serving Chicago residents. YMCA was sold to HHCD Lawson, LLC in 2014 and became Lawson House. The acquisition promised the property would remain affordable housing for at least 50 years.

The historic 24-story art deco building in the near north neighborhood of Chicago will undergo a two-year-long green renovation. The project by Holsten Real Estate Development will provide 409 studio units bringing them to today’s standards, which call for private kitchens and bathrooms in each unit. Units will get air conditioning and the building’s mechanicals will be replaced.

Supportive services will be provided by Holsten Human Capital Development for individuals with special needs and at-risk homelessness.

Construction Project begins!

HHCD successfully completed the relocation of 382 residents in October 2021. The building was ultimately emptied and trashed out in preparation for construction.

Construction fencing with accessible pathways leading to sidewalks now surrounds the building. Quarterly updates of the project will be provided.
